Alexie Enterprises, Inc. was started in 2001 by Janyce A. Louthain, author of two children's books: Tagger, Alone along the Mystic River and Ame the Elephant: Terrorized by Evil Mice.  Originally located in Carmel, IN, the company was relocated to Murrells Inlet, SC in 2006.

Since it began, Alexie Enterprises has specialized in publishing educational, issues-oriented children's books.  It has gradually added many children's books and later adult books to its list and now specializes in distribution rather than publishing.

Louthain's first book was selected for the Children's Booksense 76 List which includes books recommended by the American Bookseller's Association.  Tagger was later nominated for the Hoosier Book Award and Nutmeg Award in Connecticut.

New Venture.  In 2009, Louthain expanded Alexie Enterprises when she started producing her line of handmade, knitted hats and accessories.  Her new Pony Tail hat (which incorporates a ribbed hole in the back where the wearer can pull her pony tail through) was an instant success.  The line has been expanded  to include several hat styles and knitted accessories.  All headwear now includes the inventive built-in earmuff pads that fit over the ears when the hat is properly set on the head.  This one innovation greatly improved the hats. When worn with a matching knitted scarf, the set is great for skiing, snowmobiling and just walking the dog on cold winter mornings.
